Doing so could mean saving your life and the lives of your loved ones. Learn fire safety training tips and guidelines, so you can feel better about protecting yourself and the safety of others. According to Mick Cumming of the Essex Fire Service in the United Kingdom, approximately 500 people die each year due to fires, and another 11,000 people are seriously injured. Fire and flames is a very scary thing. Many people fear it, but this is why it is important to know about fire safety training. The first step to fire safety training is to have a concise plan. Map out the exit strategies in your house. Always make sure to have an alternate exit strategy. This is important because many people panic at the sight of fire and smoke. The most important thing is to try to stay calm and find the nearest exit. Panicking or freezing up will not do you any good. In order to ensure your safety you will have to act fast. Many fires can destroy a whole house in less than two minutes. This does not allow a lot of time for people to think of what to do; you must already know what to do. An important factor in fire safety training is knowing what to do if you ever find yourself on fire. Stop drop and roll?do not run. This will only accelerate the flames on your body. If you see that the fire is spreading, get out of the house. Do not try to put out the fire. Many people die not only from being burned to death, but also from smoke inhalation. Cover your mouth and nose and crawl your way out of the building. Crawling is advised because smoke and fire tend to rise. The closer you are to the ground the clearer the air will be. If you are in a room, make sure to check the door before exiting. If the fire is directly outside of the door, it will make the door handle extremely hot. Therefore, you will not want to touch the door handle with an exposed hand, instead look underneath the door, where there is a crack, and you can see if the fire is near. If you see that, the fire is right outside your door, try breaking a window and climbing out that way. If you are on the second floor or higher up in a building or room, get a light colored fabric like sheets or a flashlight that the firefighters can see when they come. Follow these fire safety training tips and guidelines to ensure the safety of you and your family. This way if there ever is a fire emergency everyone knows the proper way to exit the house and save his or her own life. |
